What I Learned: Casual Content
How one creator manages to make daily Youtube videos despite his busy life.
Hi everyone,
I recently came across a YouTube video by Web Dev Cody. In it, he discusses managing his time between a full-time job, caring for his sick wife, and family responsibilities, while still producing nearly daily YouTube videos.
In summary, he works from home and creates videos after his kids go to bed. However, the most interesting aspect for me was the casual manner in which he generates content and how it empowers him to maintain consistency.
As you might guess from the channel's name, his content primarily focuses on web development and tech-related fields. Working as a developer, he shares that his job serves as an idea generator. Any challenge or topic he encounters becomes a potential video subject. He's not overly selective; if he believes he can discuss it, it becomes a video idea.
After work, dinner, and family time, he heads to his office, turns on his camera, and speaks about the idea for about 15 minutes. Then, he edits the video as quickly as possible, spending roughly 30 minutes on each. He posts or schedules them without bothering to create thumbnails. Although thumbnails might attract more views, he believes they're too time-consuming.
This approach made me reflect. Maintaining weekly consistency is a challenge I face with this blog, as even my simplest posts require hours to conceptualize, write, and edit (even with AI assistance). Sometimes, I lack the motivation, despite finding the process rewarding.
Cody's method inspired me to start a new series on this blog: "What I Learned This Week" (WILTW). This post is the first of the series. The concept is a casual blog post, briefly sharing a single interesting thing I learned about during the week.
My goal is to write each post in 30 minutes or less, then use ChatGPT, as usual, to refine it into a presentable format.
I don't plan to reduce the frequency of longer, higher-quality posts. However, I hope these WILTW posts will help me meet my Sunday deadline more consistently.
Have a great week!
